Au tout début de l’automne, Les Enfants du Design se sont glissés dans les studios de création de Ferm Living, à Copenhague, à la rencontre de sa créatrice: Trine Andersen. Récit.
En 2011, nous étions parmi les premiers en France à vous faire découvrir l’univers enfant de Ferm Living. Aux premières loges de cette fabuleuse success story, nous avons eu la chance de voir de près les collections s’étoffer et « la signature » de Ferm Living s’affirmer. Un style reconnaissable entre tous, imité mais jamais égalé.
J’avais très envie de faire la connaissance de la fondatrice de Ferm Living, Trine Andersen.
Alors j’ai pris mon téléphone – accessoirement mes clics, mes claques et notre photographe – et toutes les deux, nous sommes parties à sa rencontre. Direction Copenhague.
C’était un vendredi matin, nous avons arpenté le quartier est de la ville, une zone tertiaire assez typique, toute de briques et d’entrepôts. Le showroom de Ferm Living était lové là, improbable. Sa découverte avait des airs de petit miracle : dans une cour en briques, une façade gris anthracite, une boîte aux lettres arrondie, un beau vélo tout noir… Et une grande porte vitrée s’ouvrant sur 700 m² de bureaux immaculés en open space. De fines verrières industrielles venaient scinder les espaces : showroom, service client, service administratif, équipe créa…
Tout Ferm Living était là dans cette grande boîte blanche.
Le bureau des merveilles
Trine Andersen ne s’est pas faite attendre. Son accueil fut généreux, souriant, paisible. Elle est charismatique, attentive à chaque détail, d’une disponibilité et d’une gentillesse sans égal.
Trine s’est prêtée au jeu des photos et nous a accompagné dans la découverte des lieux. Avec une pudeur mêlée de générosité, elle a consenti à nous ouvrir les portes de son bureau où les collections 2017 finissaient d’éclore en secret. Quel challenge pour notre photographe Sabine Serrad de devoir capturer en images le fabuleux tourbillon de créativité qui animait cette pièce, sans trahir le secret des nouvelles collections à venir. Mission impossible ! Le terrain était miné de trésors.
Au sol, une nouvelle lampe applique prenait forme tandis que s’accumulaient pêle-mêle les prototypes d’une nouvelle collection enfant. Chut…! Nous sommes restées pantoises devant tant de merveilles in process et devant l’esthétique de ses immenses moodboards alliant textures, photos de magazine, croquis… Nous nous prenions à imaginer le parcours de ces objets, de leur conception, ici, à leur commercialisation.
Quelle folle aventure que celle de Trine Andersen…

Meeting Ferm Living…
Back in 2011, we were among the first in France to introduce you to Ferm Living’s kids collection.
At the front seat of this amazing success story, we had the opportunity to get a very close look into their collections and see them extend, and we witnessed Ferm Living’s mark becoming more
assertive. A style that is very easy to identify; often copied but never equalled.
I really wanted to meet Trine Andersen, Ferm Living’s founder. So I took my phone, and incidentally, I packed my things too and decided to go and meet her, along with our photographer. Off to Copenhagen!
I remember it was a Friday morning, we had covered every square inch of the east end of the city, a tertiary area that is quite typical, with lots of bricks and warehouses. Ferm Living showroom was nestled there, in this very unlikely place. Discovering it felt like some kind of miracle: a brick yard, with a charcoal grey façade, a round letterbox, a beautiful black bicycle standing in front of it….
And a big glass door opening onto 700 square metres of open-plan offices.
Some thin industrial glass walls actually divided the spaces into the following: the showroom, the Marketing department, Supply Chain and logistics, Economy and administration, Design department and Sales. The whole of Ferm Living was there, in this huge white space…
Trine Andersen didn’t keep us waiting. She heartedly welcomed us, all smiling and peaceful. She is charismatic, she pays attention to every single detail, she makes herself available and she is overly kind.
Trine accepted to take part in our photo shoot and she guided us through the place. With some humility and generosity, she agreed to let us enter her office where the 2017 collections actually were secretly coming alive. It was a real challenge for our photographer Sabine Serrad to catch a glimpse of it and take pictures of the creative whirlwind going on in this room without ever revealing the secret of the new upcoming collections. It was Mission Impossible. There were treasures everywhere! On the floor, a new wall lamp was taking shape while some prototypes of a new kids collection were piling up together.
But, shh, it’s top secret! All these wonders that are «in process» and these huge, beautiful mood boards that bring together textures, magazine pictures, sketches etc. left us completely gobsmacked. We tried to imagine the process these objects are going through, from their design here to their marketing.
What a crazy adventure Trine Andersen is living!
